The Game at a Glance
What is That Which Remains?
That Which Remains is a one to four player sci-fi ghost-hunting horror extraction simulator developed by Remaining Games and published by Interdimensional Games Inc. Playing as Relics pulled from historical eras of human suffering, players work for the corporation Entitech in the year 2250 to harvest liquefied trauma called Enticine to power a future utopia.
During an excursion, players explore temporal contamination zones, locate hostile parasitic entities, gather evidence with specialized gear, and capture trauma fuel. After securing Enticine and salvage, teams extract back to a central base hub to meet an escalating daily quota, maintain persistent sanity, and spend surplus power on base upgrades and crafting.

Release Date and Demo
Steam Early Access is scheduled for October 27, 2026, and a downloadable demo is available on the official store page. Explore the announced Early Access features and the planned expansion of the story, equipment, entities, and contamination zones.
The game launches on Steam Early Access on October 27, 2026, targeting about one year in development.
A free playable demo is available on Steam ahead of launch for PC players.
All progression, levels, and unlocks gained in the Steam demo transfer directly into the Early Access release.
Beginner Guide
Learn the core expedition loop: investigate a contamination zone, identify its entity, and extract trauma-laced materials and Enticine. Return to base to meet your daily quota, recover sanity, craft equipment, and prepare for another expedition.
Enter contamination zones equipped with detection equipment, night vision, and flashlights.
Sweep rooms for temperature drops, EMF spikes, ghost orbs, and Spirit Box vocal responses.
Deploy capture traps to harvest Enticine, haul salvage containers to the exit portal, and hit your daily quota.
System Requirements
Compare the official minimum and recommended Windows PC requirements for processors, graphics cards, memory, DirectX, and storage. The listed performance targets are 1080p at 30 FPS on Low settings and 1080p at 60 FPS on Medium-High settings.
Both minimum and recommended configurations require 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Minimum play requires an AMD Ryzen 3 3100 or Intel Core i5-8400, while a Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i5-10400 is recommended.
The game requires 8 GB of RAM and 10 GB of available storage space under DirectX 12.
More details
An NVIDIA GTX 1070 or Radeon RX 5600 runs minimum settings, while an RTX 3060 or Radeon RX 6600 hits 60 FPS.
Co-op and Voice Chat
Play solo or investigate with up to four players using proximity voice chat and walkie-talkies. Local speech uses room acoustics, while the walkie-talkie connects the team across distances—and the entity can hear you.
Online PvE excursions support teams of one to four players with full-body physical presence.
In-game proximity voice chat uses per-room acoustics and walkie-talkies that entities can overhear.
Living Relics can use the Spirit Box to speak with fallen teammates who have turned into spirits.
Entity Identification Guide
Investigate EMF signals, temperature anomalies, Spirit Box responses, camera-visible ghost orbs, and other supernatural activity. Identify entities through signature evidence or recorded secondary evidence, personality traits, and reactions to your actions and words.
The Early Access build features twelve to thirteen distinct entity profiles with unique moods and behaviors.
Apparitions leave detectable traces like EMF spikes, extreme cold spots, ghost orbs, and vocal Spirit Box replies.
Entities can violently shatter furniture, cut interior lighting, throw objects, induce illusions, and possess Relics.
Spirit Box and Investigation Tools
Use investigation equipment to uncover supernatural evidence, including a camera for ghost orbs and the Spirit Box for voice interactions. V.O.I.C.E. technology lets you speak with an expedition's entity, its captured victims, and teammates who have died.
Players track paranormal presences using handheld thermometers, EMF readers, flashlights, and night vision cameras.
Microphone-based voice recognition allows two-way conversations with entities, victims, and fallen teammates.
Specialized capture tools and containment traps extract liquefied Enticine once an entity has been identified.
Ghost Capture and Resource Extraction
Search contamination zones for trauma-laced materials that can be extracted during an expedition. After identifying the manifested entity, use traps or the Capture tool to extract Enticine directly from it.
Gather primary and secondary evidence across the contamination zone to verify the exact parasite type.
Set specialized traps and extraction devices to draw liquefied Enticine directly from the active apparition.
Haul glowing green salvage boxes and extracted canisters through the exit portal before the extraction window shuts.
More details
Place collected cargo onto base storage racks to log quota credit and funnel excess fuel into base power.
Daily Quota and Base Power
Meet the Enticine quota due at the end of each day as the required amount rises over time. Surplus Enticine becomes Base Power, which sustains your base and can also be spent on upgrades.
Quotas must be fulfilled at the end of every in-game 24-hour cycle tracked on your watch interface.
Enticine gathered beyond the daily threshold converts directly into base power to keep facilities running.
Failing to hit the quota drains base power, leading to system failure and escalating mission risks.
Sanity Recovery Guide
Sanity persists across expeditions and combines exhaustion, fear, and cognitive strain into one resource. Recover by sleeping in your cabin, drinking coffee, playing basketball or chess, or using the serenity chamber base upgrade.
Sanity tracks cumulative cognitive strain, fear, and physical exhaustion across consecutive excursions.
Relics recover stability by sleeping inside customizable personal cabins and drinking coffee in the base hub.
Playing chess, shooting basketball hoops, or entering an unlocked Serenity Chamber restores depleted sanity.
Crafting and Base Upgrades
Spend rewarded Energy Credits to craft tools for yourself and other Relics, and use Base Power to upgrade your base. Leveling also unlocks equipment and personal upgrades, connecting expedition progress with your available capabilities.
Complete excursions and document anomalous evidence to earn Energy Credits for the team.
Spend Energy Credits at base recycling and crafting terminals to manufacture investigation and capture gear.
Channel excess Enticine into ten distinct base upgrades to unlock advanced facilities and perks as you level up.
Maps and Difficulty
The announced build includes five contamination zones, with environments ranging from small houses to a sprawling arctic prison. Dynamic weather and the 24-hour day/night cycle affect expedition difficulty and rewards.
Early Access features five zones: a rural house blueprint, an arctic prison, an arcade, a gas station, and a street.
Nighttime excursions increase entity aggression and hazard levels while delivering higher resource rewards.
Dynamic weather alters visibility and ambient room temperatures, influencing thermal detection sweeps.
